Wind Blown

{Everly dress worn as a blouse, Old Navy jeans, Zara shoes, J.Crew (factory) clutch, The Vault Jewels necklace, Michael Kors watch, Gap bracelet, David Yurman ring}

The good news, I finally got my hair the way I want it- wavy. The bad news, the second I stepped outside the wind blew my hair straight. I should have known better, but regardless, I was pretty annoyed. Dumb. Anyway, I’m obsessed with this Everly blouse/dress. Isn’t the color perfection?

Side note- I recently got a couple dresses hemmed (including the one above) and I’m quite disappointed. I swear, the life of a girl who needs everything altered. Either it hangs in my closet for days or I get something hemmed and it comes back too short…. I guess you would say #firstworldproblems …  but it’s still annoying. For you short gals out there, do you get your dresses or jeans altered? Has this ever happened to you?

Love the ensamble. Very cute! You looks gorgeous. Yes, I need to get both pants, dresses, and on occassion shirts since I am so flat chested. lol Anyway, it is annoying. For me I find I try to get a good deal on a piece, but then it doesn’t matter because I have to get it tailored to fit me. Then when the piece is tailored for “me”, it doesn’t look good or its strangely too short or too tight. lol Consequently, the pieces just hangs in my closet and I never bother with it again. If I don’t alter clothes I look funny and feel my worse. I don’t like being petite at all. ugh… :(

love this outfit! the dress looks so good as a top, id never even know! and that jcrew clutch. sigh… and the jacket too is actually real cute! :) as usual, great outfit!

As you’ve probably noticed, I’m on the tall side, so I don’t usually need to alter pants, skirts and dresses. That said, I once found a pair of jeans that was clearly made for someone who is freakishly tall because even when I had heels on, there was at least six inches of extra fabric. I did bring them in for alterations and it worked out well. The only tip I’d have with pants is to be sure to wash and dry them first (so they shrink up) and wear shoes with a heel height you’d want to wear with the pants after alterations.

Back to this outfit – I love your white jeans! I’m forever spilling on myself so wearing white is living dangerously for me! I don’t dare wear white jeans, but this pair looks amazing on you, especially against that pop of color!

Loving the mint + leopard combo-that’s just perfect. As a fellow petite, I feel your frustration. There’s luckily one specific tailor in town who I’ve used for about two years. She knows my fit preferences now and does a pretty great job. Before I found her though, my mom and I did all our own alterations (she’s pretty petite too). I still do from time to time if I find a particularly special piece that I only trust myself to work on.

  5. Okay is it just me or has your hair gotten a lot more voluminous since you cut it? You may be frustrated with it not being wavy but I’m really, really liking it! My hair is so heavy that I never get that kind of volume. Also, not judging your #firstworldproblems, I feel the same way about my dry cleaner!

What a cute outfit. I rarely get things taken up since I’m a bit taller than average, but on the occasion that I do, I only trust my stuff with one tailor. And make sure he/she is pinning the garment while it’s on your body — they should definitely have you try it on in the store so that they can mark it. Aside from that, if it’s not a major decrease in the length, ask them to possibly hem stuff so that they don’t remove the excess fabric and just fold it under and press it. That way, they don’t remove the material so if it’s too short, you can have them do it again correctly.

  8. Cute look! And…unfortunately, I’m a shortie and need things hemmed too! But, to be honest, I hem less than I should…mostly because things come back “off.” Yes…#firstworldproblems indeed.

  9. I love this look! The bright teal looks so fresh against the white and the leopard gives it an unexpected twist! Super cute!

Love the color of this dress/now worn as a top! And yes, I live in fear of getting things hemmed because I still have not found a tailor I’m in love with. Either the piece comes back looking like it’ s been altered or it comes back too short. I’ve even hemmed a few jeans myself and to be honest, sometimes I’m more pleased when I do it because I know I’m not a professional so I guess I’m not setting my expectations as high lol. So I totally hear what you’re saying, it’s an annoying situation to have to deal with.

  12. That blouse/dress is such a gorgeous color. I just got my hair cut too and it feels so short. Here’s to you getting more comfortable with your new length!

love how you styled this outfit, and especially the clutch! Plus it looks like it was such a beautiful day in the city!

  16. love those shoes! I was actually wearing them yesterday =)

    love that color on you!

  18. love that purse– have the same one… love the neon bracelet too! as a short girl (coming in at just 5 feet!), i always have issues with length. because i’ve gone to pick up a pair of jeans that i’m super excited about just to find out they were hemmed too short, i usually forgo hemming jeans. skirts and dresses are tricky, so i usually pass them up if they hit in the wrong place and wait for the next item that fits better. talk about #firstworldproblems, ha.

Sadly, this has happened to me a few too many times with jeans! :( What ended up “solving” my problem for me, was just testing out different tailors, with cheap jeans, and lucking out with one who does it right! It is such a bother, though!

    Good luck!

Either way, you always look fantastic! :)

  20. avatar Talia says:

The outfit is great…love the color. I’m 5’4″ and he hemming definitely is an issue. It’s either too long or too short, but I think short is worse. At least with jeans, you can wash them once. Or twice and thy are ok. I try to get the lady to hem everything a bit long, which sometimes is an even bigger fail! Let me know if you figure out the trick!!

  21. avatar Lauren says:

where did you get that gold link bracelet and the neon one too?

  22. avatar Jean says:

    Hi Crystalin!

I’ve been following your blog for a few months and thought I’d finally say hello after seeing your little rant at the bottom about alterations. Being a little under 5 ft tall…I have to get almost EVERYTHING altered, and so many times they come back disappointing and a waste of $. I started doing a lot of DIY blog posts as I’ve been slowly teaching myself how to fix crap myself. Such is life. I love your style (so many fashionistas in the Bay area and so few in Boston!) and how you make things work for you despite your size. I am jealous though that you can wear a size 6+ in shoes…I wanted those Zara court shoes so badly last year and you wear them well.

  23. avatar Crystalin says:

@Lauren- The gold chain is from Nordstrom and the brand is Sequin… but from a while ago :( Also, the neon bracelet is from Gap and I got it recently.

I’m dying to know where that jacket is from? I have been looking for something just like it!
