I was a little hesitant to try the drop waist dress knowing it may look too big and baggy on my petite frame (as mentioned by Jessica here). But, after seeing Kelly Ripa rock this Miu Miu dress, I knew I had to give it a go. I found this fairly casual and inexpensive one from Asos and could not be happier with the fit. The size 2 hits mid thigh and the drop waist hem sits right above my hips (for petite girls, I think this is crucial). My favorite part, because of the low waistline, I can easily throw on a top and/or jacket and wear it as a skirt (who doesn’t love a piece that can be worn several ways?). Since it’s always a struggle to find a dress that completely fits, in true omg-it-fits-I-need-it-in-every-color fashion, I’m already on the hunt for a dressier version of the one I’m wearing. Big fan!
The drop waist dress isn’t for everyone, but if you do want to give it a try, I’d say, make sure the dress hits you at a good length (not too long) and for us petite girls, the waist line shouldn’t be too low.
I have that dress too! Love it although sometimes I feel as if I’m trying to conceal a pregnancy.

I love it as a skirt! I bet you could even layer a sweater over it in cooler months. I’ve shied away from drop waists in the past (being only 5’2″) but now I’m thinking I might have to give it another go.

Your point about the waist having to be right above the hips is very true. I’ve tried a few drop-waist dresses (namely, H&M has a few shift-style ones from the Fashion Star winners) which were cut more for someone 5’8″…the drop waist was near my thighs. So glad you were able to find this nautical knit blazer! Love it on you with the wide brown belt.
You are totally rocking that drop waist dress! I love how you styled it too- it looks just as cute with the blazer and belt as it does plain! Drop waists are def hard to wear (my curves just do not look cute in them) but I think you and Kelly have proved that petite gals look great in them!
