Feedback

I mentioned on Twitter a couple months back that I’m in the process of re-designing and re-branding my blog. The date has been pushed back (June or July), but as with any project like this, it’s a process and shouldn’t be rushed. The blog will get a new name and domain, more features, you’ll see a lot more of Mike (hopefully), and include tutorials and videos. I like to think the general vibe is a grown up version of ITCWC (both in design and content). There’s a lot to think about when making the decision to change your domain (the actual url) and no doubt a bit scary. For instance, Facebook doesn’t allow you to simply change your name, you have to start all over, like you’re a brand new site, one like at a time. LAME. But, after thinking about this whole process for over a year now, the new name and site just feels necessary. I’ve changed, so my site should reflect that.
And now, where you come in…
Yes, the re-design is pretty much done, but I thought it was important to get feedback from all of you, seeing as though you are the ones who visit and read this blog (thank you). What are some of the things, features, designs you love about your favorite blogs? What makes it easy to navigate? Is it a great about me page? Are the You Might Also Like at the bottom of every post helpful? Do you like the Shop My Looks page? Will having the the different categories in the sidebar be useful? I’m kinda opening it up, so feel free to leave your comments.
I’m really excited for this new change and cannot wait to share the final product with all of you. Thank you again for all your emails, visits, comments, and for following along over the years. You’re the best!

Meet Lola

If you follow me on Instagram then you know Mike and I became parents to Lola (a westie poodle mix) last Thursday! It’s been a crazy/life changing past five days, but it’s all been worth it. She’s adapting well, showing us more of her personality everyday, and learning the ground rules. Mike’s already teaching her how to jump from the couch… which terrifies me, I mean she’s only three months.
I had no idea I could fall so madly in love with a dog. Seeing her play with Mike just melts my heart, so freaking adorable. This is Mike’s second dog, but my first, so if you have any advice on puppy potty training, sleeping at night, keeping them from chewing, or just anything at all, please do share. I’m so excited for this next journey in our life and I’m even more thrilled to share it with all of you =)

Gap + ITCWC

As mentioned a couple times, last week I had the opportunity to shoot with Gap Inc. It was probably one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had in my professional life. The shoot was about real life Gap fans showing how they style one or some of their favorite pieces from any of the Gap brands. I think what made this opportunity so special was the fact that I’ve been wearing Gap since I was 8 years old and continue to shop there for all my basics. The idea of working with a brand that you’ve loved all your life is special in itself.
Unfortunately, the photoshoot was for internal use and won’t be available to see anywhere public. If they decide to use my videos or photos (they shot 12 people and are using only 8) they’ll be up on my Facebook page within the year. A big thanks to Gap’s creative director who took the above shots on my camera.
I know many bloggers don’t talk about collaborations or don’t make a big deal of them, but I thought this experience was something to share because of the way it happened. Gap approached me after seeing a couple of my photos on their Facebook page (after being pinned to their Styld.by You board on Pinterest). Only because of my blog and social media could they have ever seen my photos and been able to approach me. It goes to show, when you put in the work and you put yourself out there (even if you’re not the biggest blogger) opportunities arise. You never know, you could end up working with a brand you’ve loved since you were a kid =)
A couple highlights and things I learned:
- - I booked an appointment at The Dry Bar early that morning. I thought, hey it’s Valentine’s Day and I have a photoshoot, why not? Yeah, not a good idea. All the stylist ran late which is no bueno when you have to be to the city in morning commute traffic.
- - For some reason the stylist brushed all my curls out the second I got to the shoot…”wait no, that’s how it’s supposed to look!”
- - Cameramen, videographers, and stylist do not like flyaways…. I have a thing with my hair, it has to have top volume and it has to be a little messy. That’s just the way it has to be! Unfortunately, they won’t have it. All my flyaways kept getting hair sprayed down which also meant flat straight hair. BIG time sad face. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I never ever wear my hair straight. It’s just not cute. So, I was pretty disappointed in the way my hair looked for the photos.
- - I was in the elevator with the CFO of Gap Inc. No big deal!
- - Working for a retail giants means lots of well dressed employees. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many stylish people in one place.
- - Being under bright lights and answering interview questions to the camera might be the scariest thing ever. Let’s just say my palms were sweaty lol.
- - Working with creatives in any and all fields is so much fun. The crew at Gap was absolutely amazing and gracious and I feel so blessed to have worked with them.

DIY Dot Canvases

After several months with nothing on the walls in the living and dining room I knew I had to get to work. We hadn’t seen anything we loved and we didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I thought, why not DIY it. I loved the idea of doing dots when I spotted this and this and I knew I wanted to do something similar. We could tackle it as a couple, it fits in with our home, and we could call it our own. If I had done this project in my office I probably would have gone with the bright colors (so fun!), but since we did it in our more neutral color living room, we used more muted tones.
Overall, we both love how it turned out. The colors work so well in our living room and the added gold (looks yellow in photos) really pops with the other gold accents in the room. Totally worth the time and money!
{from left to right- teal, brown, tan, white, gold, black}
{we cut about 3/4″ circles}

Materials (all bought at Michaels except the potatoes):
3 white canvases (we used 18X24)
Paint brushes
Acrylic paints
Potatoes
Pencil
Ruler
Plastic cups and plates (to mix paints)
I followed the directions listed here. The one thing we made a mistake on was drawing horizontal lines and not just tiny marks. We thought the tiny marks would take too long to measure out, when in fact, it probably has taken longer to erase the pencil lines. And, lets just say, pencil doesn’t erase well on canvas.
A couple of notes:
- The potato rounds do not need to be cut perfectly. We had trouble with this at first, but then realized the more imperfect they were, the better.
- All materials cost about $100.
- Have fun mixing the colors.
- Since we had two people working on it, we cut our time in half from 7-8 to 4 hours.
- Each dot is about 2 inches apart.
- The gold looks yellow in pictures but really pops in person.

TGIF + Sneak Peek

Of course the days I want to snap photos of our finished DIY for the blog, it’s dark and gloomy outside, aka extremely dark in the living room. I took some shots with lights on, but hated most of them. In an effort to not leave you hanging, here’s a photo with a spruced up Instagram filter. I hope to get some natural light next week so I can actually do a post and share my experience.
In happier news, happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend? Mike and I don’t have anything on the books, but I’m hoping to tackle a new recipe tonight, hit the gym, and learn how to spray paint like a pro… I have a feeling everything I own will be gold by the end of the week!
