Keeping it Real

Sorry in advance for such a long post.

I’ve been going back and forth on whether to share more about me on the blog, you know, posts that will help you get a better understanding of who I am and where I’m coming from. This blog has always been dedicated to pretty products and photos or the fun things I do and eat… kinda just on the surface though. After reading a bunch of posts from the Things I’m Afraid To Tell You series and your feedback earlier this week, I think many of you love seeing pretty products or outfits, but also enjoy getting to know the blogger and relating on different levels, real life levels.

With that being said, I’ve decided to incorporate more personal posts every now and then (on top of what I’ve been doing). Some of these will be basic, others will be funny, and some will have stories behind them. I think I do a pretty decent job at keeping this blog ‘real’ and not too ‘glamorous’ with my outfits and affordable fashion, but I hope sharing more about me will help make this space even more real and relatable and less ‘perfect.’

Oh yes, I’m also hoping to talk more about my vegan/gluten-free/healthy lifestyle and discuss my workouts. I think the boyfriend (he’ll beg to differ) is a bit of a genius when it comes to the human body and how it works, so I’ve been fortunate to learn so much.

I’m looking forward to you getting to know the girl behind the blog and along the way getting to know you better. I hope you have a fantastic weekend and thank you for listening to me ramble this week and for all the amazing feedback on Wednesday. Happy Friday!

Favorite Tee + Gold Kicks

{J.Crew baseball tee, Gap vest, Old Navy jeans, Steven by Steve Madden flats, Foley + Corinna Disco City foldover, Jewelry: Sequin link bracelet, Gap neon bracelet, Michael Kors watch, David Yurman ring}

So remember this post? Well, I was able to snag this top at a good deal and can not be more in love. It might just be my new favorite tee. Although I didn’t style it in any of the three ways I thought I would (I’m sure I will soon though), I will say, I also love it with colored denim. I think we can officially say, dressed up or down, a baseball tee is super versatile. I’m glad I can give my stripe tees a break… for now.

My Question For You

Something a little different on the blog today. Since you all help drive this blog and keep me motivated day in and day out (thank you), I thought I’d check in to see what you want to see more of on ITCWC. This blog has definitely come a long way… just in terms of content. I used to focus more on things I love; trends, products, or stories. Now, it’s more focused on my personal photos, life in the city, outfits, and fashion. I want to make sure we’re all on the same page. I mean … without you I probably would have given up on blogging and all the social media-ish. Could you imagine if I was only instagramming lol?

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MORE OF?

Vegan recipes, or health and workout related posts? Are you interested in more personal posts (get to know me a little better)? Do you want to see more outfits? What about budget friendly finds?

I know a lot of you don’t comment, but I would love to hear what you have to say.

I also wanted to let you know I’ll be answering fashion and outfit related questions here on the blog (hopefully once a week). I think it’s a great way to respond to emails and answer questions many other readers may have too. To get an idea of the questions: How do I get the most out of white denim? What to wear to a summer wedding, Where can I find comfortable but stylish walking shoes?

I’m looking forward to answering your questions, so feel free to email me at inthecitywithcrystalin {at} gmail.com

Backward

{Gap sweater worn backward, J.Crew Factory skirt, Nine West sandals, Zara clutch, Jewelry: See Jewelry necklace, Sequin link bracelet, David Yurman ring, Tiffany and Co. ring, Michael Kors watch}

In general I have a hard time wearing skirts. They’re super girly (which I shy away from) and usually overwhelm my small frame. I did recently find this white skirt at J.Crew Factory that is casual, perfect in size, and hits the perfect lenght. For some reason I’m really loving a white skirt… but then again, I’m loving anything white (as seen here and here). Since I like to dress down girly pieces, I love the idea of pairing a skirt with a sweater, tee, or flats.

This was my first attempt at wearing a sweater backward and I kinda like it. It adds the perfect little twist. Have you tried this trend?

Weekend Recap

{down time for a little mani, Pinterest, and hot tea}

{yummy Thai food}

{drinks with girlfriends at Absinthe}

{met this little pup on Saturday}

{drinks in San Jose with the boy’s friends}

{treats to cap off the weekend}

Boy, I wish it was Sunday all over again. It might be my favorite day of the week. Anyway, how was your weekend? Although busy, it was nice seeing both sides of the family and friends in the South Bay on Saturday. Sunday we were back in the city eating burritos, grabbing sorbet and gelato, and watching the NBA playoffs.

In other news, I’m beyond excited for the Bachelorette premiere tonight! Anyone else an avid watcher? I’m not gonna like, reality TV Monday’s are the best, ha. Happy Monday!

TGIF for reals! This week has been rough. Between allergies, body aches, stomach aches, and no sleep I’m so ready for the weekend. The boy and I will be celebrating a birthday and Mother’s Day down in the South Bay Saturday and then hopefully Sunday will be dedicated to relaxation and sunshine. What do you have planned?

I also wanted to say thank you for all your sweet comments on my BTS featured on Vmac + Cheese. To those of you new here, thank you for stopping by and I’m looking forward to getting to know you =)

Wishing all the mothers a very special and happy Mother’s Day!

Summer Wear

{Gap shorts, Madewell tee, Quipid flats via Sway Chic, H&M belt, Target clutch, Jewelry: The Vault Jewels necklace, Sequin chunky link bracelet, Juicy Couture link bracelet, Asos rings, Michael Kors watch}

I snagged these beige flats last weekend at a little boutique in Hayes Valley. I was introduced to Sway Chic by an ultra fabulous gal pal via Instagram (cc: @pipercase). Although they have an online boutique, if you’re in the area, I would highly recommend stopping in (more selection in store). Everything is right on trend and affordable.

I was definitely having a summer moment on Sunday. Shorts and just a tee… that never happens in Sf. Days like these don’t come around often, so I was taking it all in with my new favorite neon pink stripe tee. Not pictured, my wild berry sorbet =)

p.s Be sure to check out my Behind the Scenes over on vmacandcheese!

A Classic

{Gap jacket, Old Navy jeans, Crew Cuts chambray, J.Crew Factory clutch, Nine West pumps,  Jewelry: See Jewelry necklace, Sequin bracelet, Michael Kors watch, David Yurman ring, Asos chevron rings}

I have several chambray shirts, but this Crew Cut (boys) one takes the cake. I now know why bloggers have been living in these. Surprisingly, the shoulders fit well, it’s not too boxy, and loose in all the right places. If you can fit into these, I’d highly recommend them.

I’m also really loving white denim paired with chambray. Such a classic look to try for spring and summer.

Weekend Recap

{we may have had Mexican food Fri-Sun}

{yummy nachos for the boy}

{Ferry Building Farmer’s Market and beautiful weather on Saturday}

{Tony’s Pizzeria with friends}

This past weekend consisted of margaritas, Mexican food, and a ton of sunshine. No joke, it felt like summer! Saturday we had the pleasure of walking down to North Beach with friends for a late night dinner at Tony’s Pizza. The weather was perfection and the walk from Nob Hill to North Beach, um hello, STUNNING! I finally got to try their Marina pizza and it was to die for (yes, even without cheese). Their dough is out of this world. A must try for those of you visiting Sf.

This week is insanely busy, but I can’t wait meet up with old and new friends for drinks on one of the warmest weeks this year. I hope your weekend included mint juleps and/or margaritas and a ton of tacos and guacamole. Happy Monday =)
